Open Morning - Year 7 and 8 tour guides

On Wednesday, we are welcoming Year 6 pupils and their families to our Open Morning. These pupils sat the entrance test in September and have recently received their results. The morning gives families another opportunity to visit our school before they submit their secondary school preferences at the end of October.

You will each be allocated one visiting family to take on a guided tour of the school. As we have a large number of families attending, you will be leading tours individually rather than in pairs.

Please make sure you:

  • are wearing full, smart school uniform;
  • have your access tag with you;
  • go straight to Richardson Hall (RH) at the time shown below.

Thank you in advance. I know you will be excellent ambassadors for our school.

Period 1: 9.10–9.50am – 7M and 7SP

  • Do not take your P1 or P2 books to form. Take only your phone pouch.
  • At 9.10am, put your phone pouch in your locker.
  • Come straight to Richardson Hall.
  • You will line up, receive a short briefing and then begin your tour.

Periods 1/2: 9.40–10.20am – 7F and 7G

  • Take your P1 books and phone pouch to form as normal.
  • Leave your P1 lesson at 9.40am.
  • Put your belongings in your locker and come straight to Richardson Hall.
  • You will line up, receive a short briefing and then begin your tour.
  • After your tour, return to your locker to collect your P2 equipment and go to P2.

Period 3: 10.10–10.50am – 7M and 7SP

  • After your P1 tour, go to P2 as normal and be registered.
  • At 10.10am, put your belongings in your locker and come straight to Richardson Hall.
  • You will line up, receive a short briefing and then begin your tour.

Periods 3/4: 11.40am–12.20pm – 7FR and 8M

  • Attend P3 as normal with your books.
  • You will be released just after 11.40am.

Please check it and ensure you attend your rehearsals, early lunch passes are on the drama studio desk for all pupils who wrote names down- please only take yours and leave the rest tidy. Could we gently remind students that a large number of students auditioned and so to have a part is a big achievement- we do not want nor expect any students to drop out now that the rehearsals have begun. If the ensemble are due to rehearse this is everyone named in the ensemble and any charactered parts with ensemble next to their name- cast list also on drama studio door. See you at lunch time actors and directors.

Cancelled: County netball qualifier U14, U16, U19

Following discussions with staff from Streetly and St Francis, we have made the decision to cancel this evening’s County Qualifiers due to the unsafe court conditions caused by the sheer volume of rain.

All netballers should remain in their PE kit for the school day, which is absolutely fine. However, if you are in Years 8-11, please ensure you go to Reception today to make arrangements for getting home at the end of the school day.

All schools have agreed that Queen Mary's teams will progress as qualifiers:

  • U14 – 2nd place
  • U16 – 2nd place
  • U19 – 1st place

Our senior teams will still have a fixture on 4 November at Wolverhampton Grammar School, and further details will be sent out shortly.

County squad players will receive their letters this week, along with the online consent form for the County Round, which will take place on Sunday 8 November.

Thank you for your understanding and congratulations to all teams on qualifying.

Netball trials part 2 Year 7

Hi everyone,

Any Year 7 students who need support getting to the fields this afternoon for netball training and retrials for the remaining seven spaces should meet in the Big School Hall at 1:45 pm, at the end of lunchtime.

Please could any students who have already emailed to offer help this afternoon also come to the hall at that time so they can assist those who need support.

I already have two Year 8s, two Year 11s, and some sixth formers helping on the bus, but I am really in need of people who can help walk students up to the fields.

Thanks very much!

Year 7 Netball Trials

A huge thank you to everyone who attended the netball trials this week. We had almost 70 students take part, which is fantastic!

Emails will be sent to your school Outlook account over the weekend to let you know if you have been selected in the first 22-player squad.

We are holding 8 places back to give students who were ill, or those we would like to see again, a fair opportunity to trial. Students invited to these final trials will also receive an email.

The 22 selected players should attend training as normal on Monday at lunchtime 1:20-1:50pm and 4:00pm to 5:00pm at the fields. Final trials for the remaining 8 places will take place at the same time on a separate court.

If you are in 7SP or 7M and would like support getting to the fields, please come and see Mrs Turner at break today or email her so that guides can be arranged.

Well done again to everyone who took part!

Signing in when late

Good Morning,

Being in school and on time is REALLY important.  We are already seeing a few of you slip.  Please try and get back into habits and routines that take account of your planned journey and allow additional time in case of any unforeseen disruptions.

You may have noticed that Miss Bent who is our attendance officer is now based in what was the music house.  So right by the entry and exit of gate 2.  If you arrive late to school you now need to sign in with her. You will be expected to get to your form room or classsroom within 3 minutes of signing in.  If you are not you will be awarded consequence points for not being ready.

If you have a known medical appointment parents should notify the attendance email in advance and you will then sign out with Miss Bent who will check we have been notified.  Please consider that if you have a medical appointment in the morning and you arrive after 9.15am it will show on your attendance record as an absence for that morning.  Please try and avoid medical appointments at the start of the day.

Please be reminded that once you reach 5 x late you will be triggered to attend an after school detention the following day.  Parents will also be notifed every day you are late.

Good habits ad routines will help you feel settled at the start of each day.  If there are any genuine issues please speak to your form tutor, HoY or Miss Bent.

Summer House Challenge Day

Good Morning all,

We are looking forward to our annual summer house challenge day that is taking place tomorrow.

The theme is Give to Gain and with that message of - we rise by lifting one another.

We look forward to seeing you all do absolutely that and finish what has been an exceptional year here at QMHS on a really positive high.

We have been very closely watching the weather forecast and have a contingency plan to stay in school should it get too hot, but we are aiming to be able to get everyone to the school fields for the running races aspect of sports day in the afternoon still - as I guess that is when it gets more exciting!

BUT, we need you to be sensible and ensure you are prepared! So please remember:

  1. PE kit to be worn but a T shirt or accessories of your house colour are allowed
  2. Make sure you apply sunscreen before school and bring some to reapply in the afternoon
  3. We suggest wearing a sun hat.
  4. Make sure you have a water bottle and keep hydrated . Especially those of you that are competing.
  5. Eat even if you don't feel hungry
  6. We suggest bringing an umbrella that can be used to create some shade
  7. Maybe bring a picnic blanket too

We have made two minor changes and that is to have lunch at school and to walk to the fields after lunch. This will keep you out of the sun for a while.

We are also going to move the seating areas so that every house has some allocated tree shade.

Let's get behind each other and really embrace and enjoy what is often the best day of the academic year for so many of us.

Who will win it this year?

Over all House winners will be announced in house assemblies on Thursday!

Have a great day

YEAR 8 FORM ROOMS

Recently, a number of form rooms have been left in an unacceptable state, and there has also been some unacceptable behaviour. This shows a lack of respect for your environment and for each other.

As a result, from today (17.06.26), Year 8 form groups will only be permitted to remain in their own designated form room.

All students are expected to:

  • Keep your form room tidy and clean
  • Take responsibility for your surroundings
  • Ensure the room is left ready for its next use

Let’s work together to maintain a respectful and pleasant environment for everyone.

Thank you

The dates for the Walsall badminton competition for 2026 are yet to be confirmed but the organisers do believe it is likely to be around the week of the 20th April.

We will be looking to take our previous Year 10 and 11 students for the U16 team/s and not trialling due to the proximity to exam season.

For our U14 team, if you would like to be considered for the team we would be happy to see students in Year 8 and 9 on Wednesday 25th March (potential rolling date of Thursday if it is too busy), at lunchtime in BSH. We do appreciate some students may be on the ski trip this date so if you would like to be considered can you please let Mrs Turner know.

Trialees for Thursday must have received Exceeding or Expanding for badminton from your PE teacher or attend a club outside of school. If you are unsure of your current assessment level, do see your PE teacher in advance so that you do not feel disappointed at the trials.

We will not be able to announce the team until after the date and information about the competition has been sent to schools. 1 team would be 5 students across Year 8 and 9, 2 teams would be 10.

IMPORTANT: CAS FASHION SHOW MODELS TOMORROW

CAS Fashion Show – TOMORROW in RH Models Notice

  • Please be prepared to walk in the fashion show in RH on Tuesday 24th March at lunch time from 1:00-2:00pm. This is going to be a positive celebration of culture, so there will be no judgement; only respect for all cultures, praise and applause from the audience – so there’s no need to be nervous! Smile, have fun and show off your cultural dress! There is no need for props, only flags of your country if you have them.
  • I will ask permission from your teacher for you to leave your lesson P4 at 12:30 (if you have an assessment or teachers need you in that lesson, you may need to stay, in which case you must come over to RH at 1pm).
  • Put your books away in your locker and come straight over to RH so that you can be registered (please don’t go wandering around the school or toilets – you must stay in RH until you’ve had your turn in the show).
  • From 12:30 – 12:55, you will have a chance to eat your lunch in RH. Please consider bringing a packed lunch that day as I can’t guarantee you early access to the canteen for food (you won’t have much time at all after the show to eat your lunch, so prioritise eating your food and getting ready (if you need to) between 12:30-12:55pm).
  • From 12:55-1:-05, you will get a chance to practise walking (slowly) on the runway, before the audience will be let in from 1:10.
  • If we have permissions, photos will be taken of you on a professional school camera as you walk and will be shared at a later date, so we can capture your moment on the catwalk! This means there will be no need for friends in the audience to take photos or film your walk (phones should be kept in lockers as per school rules).
  • After you walk, you have the choice to stand at the back at watch the show or you may leave and go and enjoy the remainder of your lunchbreak (you can exit via the fire exit in RH).
  • Everyone will return to lessons at normal for P5 so please ensure you have eaten and have your books for the afternoon. The show will finish on time, so there will be no excuse to be late.

Any questions, see Miss Lindsay (H02). Thank you!
